Maddox, a Year 8 student, recently spent the day at the West Midlands Karate Open Championships 2019. After competing in many rounds he successfully won the gold medal in the Boys’ Kumite 12-13 years 50kg+ category. He also went on to win another gold medal as part of the Boys’ Kumite Team in the 10-12 years category. The following week he travelled to Glasgow to take part in the British Karate Federation International Open Championships 2019. He was up against 32 other competitors from other countries aged between 12-13 years 45kg+. Unfortunately Maddox sustained an injury to his right hand during the second round but carried on to secure the bronze medal, losing out to silver by just one point! This dedicated young sportsman was determined not to let his team down and lined up to compete in the Boys’ 12-13 teams competition. Together they fought through to the final where they won silver. Maddox has been selected to represent the England Korean Karate Association (EKKA) and has been practising karate for 6 years. He has graded to the purple-white belt. Well done Maddox!
