INTERNATIONAL SUCCESS FOR STANWAY STUDENT
Over the Easter break Stanway School student Adam represented England in the
2019 EU Nations Junior Men Water Polo tournament in Brno in the Czech Republic.
Fourteen countries across Europe took part in this water polo event.
England was drawn in Group B and Adam represented his country in all seven games,
scoring goals past Austria (1), Denmark (2), Lithuania (1), Cyprus (1), Moldova (1) and
Sweden (1). England finished 7th overall after a dramatic and thrilling 10 – 8 penalty
shoot-out victory over Sweden.
Adam and many of his teammates were playing in their first EU Nations Cup against
mainly older opposition. Not only was this a great experience and testament to their
ability, but also a huge honour for Adam. He strives to succeed and works hard in the
pool to continue playing for club and country in his own age group categories and
also to be selected for older age groups as he progresses in the sport.
Since this tournament Adam has been invited to attend the ESSA (England Schools
Swimming Association) Duke of Cambridge Cup in Manchester. This will consist of the
best 35 players born in 2003 in the country. A thirteen man squad will be selected
from these players to represent England Schools’ Water Polo team in another
European tournament to be held in Hungary. Selection results are due out in July and
we wish Adam the very best of luck.
Adam continues to represent Watford U17 and U19 National age group squad. His
aim is to continue doing well in the sport of water polo and one day represent Great
Britain.
